Berlin Wall Bike Tour

3 different tours along the Berlin Wall

30 years of the fall of the Berlin Wall, for this special anniversary we offer you 3 different tours by bike or e-bike along the former Berlin Wall. Depending on whether you want to explore the top highlights in Berlin Mitte or if you prefer the life in Kreuzberg, there are different tours along the Berlin Wall. Heinz, founder of Urban Bike Tours, experienced the Wall live during his time in West Berlin and was there at the border crossing Invalidenstrasse when the border was opened on November 9th. Some of our guides grew up in the eastern part of the city and tell us how it was to live there. All 3 tours are a unique time travel back into the turbulent history of Berlin.

Along the wall through Prenzlauer Berg to the government district

Wall memorial

Our 1st Wall Tour takes you along the former border through Prenzlauer Berg and Berlin Mitte. Here you will learn what influence the construction of the Wall had on the lives of the people and what stories were connected with it. A lot of drama took place here at the former sector border along Bernauer Straße. We will get to know the beautiful district of Prenzlauer Berg, which is characterized by old buildings, and you will learn in exciting anecdotes how the district has changed from a former artists' and students' quarter to one of the most popular family districts in Berlin. We cycle along the Wall memorial on Bernauer Strasse, discover one of the last remaining watchtowers, relive the events of 9 November 1989 at the Bornholmer Strasse border crossing and discover what green oases Berlin offers through the former death strip. This tour takes us to the Brandenburg Gate, the symbol of reunification, and we tell you what we experienced here 30 years ago.

Brandenburg Gate - Potsdamer Platz - Checkpoint Charlie

Our 2nd Wall Tour takes us along the beautiful boulevard Unter den Linden directly to the Brandenburg Gate, probably the most famous symbol of German reunification. From here we follow the Wall Trail in the direction of Potsdamer Platz to Checkpoint Charlie. On this route we discover the history of the Wall live and our guides let their experiences of the last 30 years flow into their stories. At Berlin's most famous former border crossing, Checkpoint Charlie, we experience the history of the Cold War at original places. Our way back leads us past some of Berlin's top sights, like the Gendarmen Markt, Museums Insel and Hackescher Markt. We will tell you how the city has changed since the fall of the wall and give you a lot of insider knowledge along the way.

West Berlin Kreuzberg, Checkpoint Charlie and Street Art

On the 3rd Berlin Wall Anniversary Bike Tour we go through Berlin Mitte via Checkpoint Charlie to Kreuzberg and back along the east bank of the Spree along the Eastsidegallery to Berlin Mitte. On this tour we dive into the famous Berlin neighborhood and scene life that makes Berlin so popular. We discover historically important places such as the Axel Springer skyscraper directly on the wall very close to the former most famous border crossing Checkpoint Charlie, the unique tree house on the wall, the Oberbaumbrücke and East Side Gallery. Heinz, who still knows Kreuzberg from his time in West Berlin, will show you his Berlin. On this tour, the fun factor must not come too short, because it is Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain, the most popular party districts of the city.

Picture of the famous Berlin nightlife at Eastsidegallery

Berlin's street art scene is very closely connected to the Berlin Wall. In the 80s, artists like Thierry Noir and Christophe Bouchet influenced the Berlin street art scene with their Wall images on the West Berlin side. After the fall of the Wall, the Berlin Wall was "cannibalized" and sold worldwide with its many graffiti. Today we experience along the Eastsidegallery the artistic and also political statement of street art on one of the last remaining sections of the Berlin Wall.

Besides Berlin Wall history, you will of course also experience the famous Berlin neighborhood life, colorful street art and exciting anecdotes of the last 30 years, as well as many current tips on how to spend the rest of your stay in Berlin.
